JULIE COWANS MCIH, FRSA, MIoD, (H) MRTPI Director

Julie is founding director of theplaceteam. Before that she held senior positions in government, industry, charitable and voluntary sectors. She specialises in housing, mixed communities, planning, regeneration, land and development economics, public and private sector collaboration.

She advises UK and international government and has been a executive member of a number of UK Governmental Reviews, including the HMTs Home Ownership and Shared Equity Task Force, the Callcutt Review of UK Housing Supply, CLGs Mixed Communities Initiative, and the iDeA’s Leadership Programme. She has been a member of the Deputy Prime Ministers Building Regulations Advisory Committee. She is a member of the Cabe’s research steering group, and the Royal Town Planning Institutes Policy Committee and General Assembly.

She is a Trustee of the Town and Country Planning Association, a member of the Chartered Institute of Housing, The Institute of Directors, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and an honorary member of the Royal Town Planning Institute. She has been a special advisor to the Joseph Rowntree Foundation where she led on urban policy and sustainable community development for 10 years.

She advises many private sector land owners, institutional investors, developers and management companies. This cross sectoral knowledge enables fruitful connections to be made between concepts, people, organisations and funding streams.
