Professor DUNCAN MACLENNAN CBE, OBE, FRSA, (H) MRTPI, (H)CIH Associate (Land and Housing Economics)

Duncan currently divides his time between Canada, where he is advising the Canadian Government on housing and the economy, and the UK.

A former professor in Applied Economics at the University of Glasgow, Duncan held the visiting Chair in Real Estate Finance at the Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, and was the Regent’s Professor at the University of California. He held the Mactaggart Chair of Land Economics and Finance at Glasgow University and is a former Director of the ‘Cities’ Programme of the Economics and Social Research Council (ESRC).

Duncan was Director of the Rowntree Foundation’s Research Programmes on Housing Finance and Housing in the Economy and then Economic Adviser. He was Academic Advisor to the Duke of Edinburgh’s

Inquiry into British Housing. Duncan was the Principal Consultant to OECD on urban housing finance, and a Member of the Consultative Committee to the Minister for Housing in England. He has advised the World Bank, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Governments of Poland, Spain, France and Sweden, the Scottish Development Agency and the Scottish Office. He is a former Special Advisor to Scotland’s first Minister.

Until 2005 Duncan held the position of Chief Economist at the Department for Sustainability and Environment for the Government of Victoria, Australia.

Duncan is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and has published widely on housing and urban issues. He is a Member of HM Treasury’s Panel of Advisers on Micro Economic Issues.
